Cranbrook Mayor Ross Priest, together with East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett and Columbia Kootenay MP Jim Abbott are pleased to announce that an agreement has been formally signed with Delta Airlines to provide non-stop international service between Canadian Rockies International Airport (Cranbrook) and Salt Lake City, Utah. “This is the first of many positive stories that will flow from our airport” said Mayor Priest, “everyone involved has worked diligently on this for many years, and it is gratifying to see how much can happen when governments and the private sector all pull together”. Delta will begin the jet service in December of this year with three flights a week. The two hour trip between Cranbrook and Salt Lake City will enable East Kootenay residents to connect seamlessly to Delta flights anywhere in the world while at the same time, open massive new markets for regional tourism products. “Over 65 million new travelers can get from their homes throughout the United States to Cranbrook in less than half a day” commented MLA Bill Bennett. “The tourism potential is enormous”.
